The ZW32-12F outdoor vacuum circuit breaker (also known as a "watchdog switch") is an outdoor power distribution device designed for a rated voltage of 12 kV in a three-phase AC 50 Hz system. This outdoor vacuum circuit breaker is primarily used for switching and interrupting load currents, overload currents, and short-circuit currents in power systems. It offers quick-break capability, ground protection, optional reclosing counts, local remote control, and remote communication, making it ideal for protection and control in substations and industrial power distribution systems.
Although designed for 12 kV applications, the technology concept is similar to a 33 kV outdoor vacuum circuit breaker, ensuring high reliability and safety for medium-voltage networks. When a fault occurs within a 12 kV line T-connection user's internal system, or if the fault occurs on the internal side of the user's incoming line switch and its protection action time does not coordinate with the substation's outgoing line switch protection, it can cause the substation's outgoing line switch to trip. If the fault is permanent and the substation's reclosing attempt fails, an incident within a medium-voltage user's boundary can lead to a power outage of the entire distribution line, causing significant social and economic losses.
The ZW32-12F outdoor vacuum circuit breaker, comparable in many respects to a 33 kV outdoor VCB, is installed at the responsibility boundary of overhead lines, specifically at the front end of the user's incoming line. It can automatically isolate single-phase ground faults and phase-to-phase short-circuit faults within the user's boundary, preventing the spread of faults to the main transmission line. This ensures the safety of non-faulty users' power supply and enhances power reliability while reflecting the advanced design principles used in modern 33 kV outdoor vacuum circuit breaker systems.
